We'll start off this SEO lesson with a few facts. SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization, but you probably already know this since you are here. However, implementing proper SEO techniques into web content is not as straightforward as the definition of the term. Defining something is usually very easy – you can find all the definitions in the world just by typing the term you are interested in and 'definition' in the search bar of the web browser you are using. However, after you have read the definition of SEO, can you say that you would know how to make use of SEO techniques and optimize a piece of writing for search engines? Even though a lot of people think they would know how to do this, the facts will tell us a different story. A story that, unfortunately, has nothing to do with relevant, original, easy to read, and informative web content
Bad SEO Often Creates Spam!

Here comes the ugly truth: badly used optimization techniques are responsible for creating spam, and not the good kind that comes in metal containers. What do you think about the following piece of writing?

"When you are thinking about hardwood floors NYC, you are actually thinking about hardwood floors NYC that come at cheap prices. However, cheap hardwood floors NYC is not always the type of hardwood floors NYC you should go for. No, hardwood floors NYC should be chosen according to the quality of hardwood floors NYC and the reliability of the hardwood floors NYC company…"

Do you have a feeling that you have read anything relevant or logical, or do you think that you have read a piece of writing that is nonsensical and should obviously be regarded as spammy? The sad truth is that there is a lot of written content to be found online that has been written in this exact manner. Good SEO? You can bet your a$$ it is everything but good SEO!

On Using Keywords Moderately

Keywords are basically what the piece of writing you are writing or reading is about. Now, the problem is not choosing the keywords, but rather using them enough times to let the search engines know what your text is about. When search engine bots come to your webpage, they will scan it in search of keywords, and this is, among other things, what will affect the place of your website in search engine results. This is easy to understand with a simple example. If you have a website that deals with flowers, you will want to let search engines know that they should direct anyone who is interested in flowers to your website. So, how will you do this? You will do this by using keywords in your web content – keywords such as flower/s, rose/s, orchid/s, and so on. The keyword here is USING as opposed to OVERUSING, and you should always keep this in mind. Never overuse keywords!

How to Know Whether You Are Overusing Your Keywords?

There is a term I like to use, and it is keyword stuffing. As you probably suspect, this is the activity of choice of many so-called SEO gurus who, by doing this, want to demonstrate their vast knowledge of SEO, or, more precisely, the lack thereof. You cannot just write a text and stuff the keywords in without even thinking about making the text digestible or logical at all. Yes, you should indeed use keywords and SEO techniques, but you should use them moderately, naturally, and logically. Any piece of writing that has been optimized for search engines should read nicely and have a flow, rather than just be a group of random words put there to satisfy search engine bots. Eventually, all badly optimized web content will go where it belongs – into the Google sandbox. Once there, no SEO techniques in the world will be able to pull it back up again, and this is a fact!

So, What Should You Do?

Here's the bottom line – think about SEO, but only after you have thought about making your web content relevant, original, easy to read, and informative. There are a lot of differing opinions related to the keyword density you should use, but I advise you not to think about it too much. Make sure you are not using your primary keyword phrase more than two or three times per every 100 words, and I guarantee that you will be very happy with the results. Just remember, there is a good reason why smart and successful Internet marketers and online writers say that content is king! Keep your mind on creating content that will deliver on its promise and give the users what they were looking for, and use keywords to let search engine bots know what your content is about – it is that simple!

P.S. Go back and read only the things in bold, and that is basically everything you need to remember on the subject of using SEO techniques in the best possible way!
